Surprising twist: the Avalanche fan is NOT the worst boyfriend in puck-catching incident!
Twitter

The video has gone viral.

Last week, Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog spotted a couple from the warmups on the ice and flipped the puck over the boards to reach them in the stands.

The boyfriend, an Avalanche fan, elbowed his girlfriend in the head trying to catch a puck. He then ended up giving he souvenir to another woman, who was sitting in front of them while he attempted to comfort his girlfriend after the puck-catching incident.

Commentators, reporters and writers - including us - gave him “The Worst boyfriend” title, however, there is now a surprising twist in the story. The guy gave the puck… to his mother Patty Beckman!

She is hockey memorabilia collector and she explained the situation to Ashley Michels of Fox Denver 31:

“’I’m ecstatic! I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I finally got a [Landeskog] puck,’ she said.
The excitement faded when she saw the video on the big screen. It featured arrows, zooms and other editing to point out how her son supposedly did the wrong thing and how upset his girlfriend was because of it.
“She never wanted the puck. She was pissed about something completely different,” Beckman said.
The video made it onto social media where it went viral. It was even featured in articles from overseas online publications. Many articles referred to her son as “the worst boyfriend of all time.” Comments have also surfaced criticizing Beckman.
“According to social media, I’m his convenient piece of [you know what] on the weekend,” Patty said. “I was called fat. I was called a loser.’”

This is the true story. We hope the boyfriend and his girl made up: after all, she should be happy to be dating a boy who always goes out off his way to help and please his mother.
