There was another layer to the brawl that took place the matchup Monday night between he Washington Capitals and the Anaheim Ducks. A layer of disgusting saliva as you may know by now…

Capitals forward Garnet Hathaway will have a hearing with the NHL Wednesday morning for a spitting incident in Monday’s game against the Ducks.

Hathaway spit on Erik Gudbranson and was thrown out of the game. The two were in the middle of a larger brawl in the second period when the Caps player made the incident worse.

At the contest, Hathaway said he regretted the loogie that will now spark further punishment from the NHL as he awaits his suspension.

“I regret doing it,” Hathaway said. “I didn’t have any arms free and made an emotional decision that I wish I didn’t, but right now I am trying to move on from it and there is nothing that I can do but apologize.”

The Capitals will have to consider a roster move when losing Hathaway to a suspension. The team is right up against the $81.5 million salary cap ceiling and has the minimum of 18 healthy skaters on the roster and will have to make some smarts changes to the lineup.

We will know more on the suspension after the hearing…
