In case you missed it earlier today, the Carolina Hurricanes walked away with a tidy 4-1 Game Two victory over the New York Rangers, giving themselves a commanding two to zero lead in the teams’ Best of Five qualifying series.

Leading the way for the ‘Canes was 20 year old Andrei Svechnikov with an incredible hat trick performance. In fact, not only did the kid snipe three goals en route to victory, if you can believe it he is now the first and ONLY player in Hurricanes / Hartford Whalers history to score a playoff hat trick.

For real!?

For real.

Check it out:

And all three tallies:

Pretty, pretty smooth. But really, should we be surprised? After all, this is the kid who scored not one but two incredible "lacrosse style" goals this season.

Remember these beauties?

The kid is legit.

I'll admit that, aside from the highlights, that I haven't followed this kid too closely. Of course we all know that he was selected 2nd overall by the 'Canes in 2018 behind just #1 pick Rasmus Dahlin of the Buffalo Sabres. I know that he has oodles of offensive talent and that he's developed some chemistry with 'Canes centermen Sebastian Aho, but again I've let him mostly slide under my radar. Well... not any more. Svechnikov isn't going to fly under anyone's radar.

This kid is an absolute TREAT to watch, especially when him and Aho are firing on all cylinders. The 20 year old Svechnikov is not only a talented offensive player, but he's a absolute workhorse in the defensive zone too. He's 6 foot, 2 inches tall and 200 pounds with another 10 pounds of muscle or so to come in the next few years. He's a modern day, two-way type player with high, high, high end offensive skills. I'm excited to see what kind of career this kid puts together. He's got the size, he's got the skill, he's got the drive. The tools are all there and it'll be exciting to see when this kid puts everything together, especially while playing with a supremely talented playmaker like Aho.
