The trade rumors currently swirling around the Ottawa Senators have been pretty crazy with even superstar defenseman Erik Karlsson being linked ot the possibility of a trade.

While there's no longer any doubt that Senators general manager Pierre Dorion is looking to make a trade in order to shake up his current roster, it's much more likely that a lesser player eventually gets traded.

On Tuesday TSN insider Bob McKenzie was asked about the situation in Ottawa and he pointed to two Senators forwards who's names he has heard bandied about.

"But I do think that – and Bruce Garrioch  wrote this in the Ottawa Sun/Citizen this morning – that they are looking at making some moves," said McKenzie as per Fanrag's Chris Nichols. "I think Mike Hoffman’s name and Jean-Gabriel Pageau’s name have been mentioned. We’ll see."

Hoffman is obviously the most valuable of the two players, with three consecutive seasons of 25 or more goals scored, and he is once again having a strong season with 21 points in his first 28 games this season.

Pageau isn't as offensively gifted as Hoffman but he also counts for $2 million less against the salary cap. That may be a huge selling point for cap strapped teams trying to add talent up the middle for a playoff rub. He has also played in 28 games this season and has 12 points for the Senators.
