Talented young defenseman surprisingly on the trading block.

To be perfectly honest this comes as one of the more shocking rumors we've come across this season.

According to a recent report from ESPN (Insider account required to access this content) the St. Louis Blues have put talented young defenseman Kevin Shattenkirkon the trading block. To give you an idea of how good this 26 year old is, he was arguably the favorite to win the Norris, and if not the favorite certainly among the top contenders, prior to his abdominal injury last season.

It would seem insane to consider trading Shattenkirk, however it appears the issue is a financial one for the Blues who already have some very high priced players on their roster, and Shattenkirk will likely fetch a big price in free agency.

With that said, Shattenkirk still has one more year on his contract at the end of the season, and he could be a game changing addition to almost any roster around the National Hockey League.
