In case you missed the news earlier today, St. Louis Blues superstar Vladimir Tarasenko will be out of his team’s lineup for AT LEAST five months after suffering a brutal shoulder injury in a game against the Los Angeles Kings last week.

According to the team, Tarasenko will undergo surgery on his left shoulder tomorrow afternoon and will be re-evaluated in five months. For those doing the quick math, that means Tarasenko will be eligible to return in late March or April, just ahead of the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The thing is… that’s IF he heals properly and suffers no setback in his recovery. Injuries of this sort have seen players miss 6-8 months or more in the past. So… unless something very unique happens, it’s likely that Tarasenko’s season is over.

This is obviously a HUGE blow to a Blues team who has designs on repeating as Stanley Cup champions this season. In just 10 games this season Tarasenko was back to his usual tricks, potting three goals and 10 points.

”He’s a huge player for our team,” said teammate Ryan O’Reilly. “It’s a tough loss and you can see tonight, it impacts us. We all have to be better for when we’re missing him.”

“We’re going to need guys to keep stepping up and obviously it’s a great opportunity for young guys that will probably have better looks, better chances,”  echoed David Perron. “We’re looking forward to see what’s going to happen and the guys that will step up in those roles.”

Blues GM Doug Armstrong is expected to address the media tomorrow about Tarasenko’s injury at the team’s practice facility in St. Louis.
