Tavares out long-term with broken finger

This just in, the Toronto Maple Leafs have announced that captain John Tavares sustained a broken finger in last night’s loss to the Washington Capitals. He’s expected to be out of the team’s lineup for a minimum of two weeks.

The @MapleLeafs announced today that centre John Tavares sustained a broken finger late in last night’s game in Washington.

He will be out of the lineup for a minimum of two weeks, at which point he will be reassessed by the team's medical staff.

John Tavares took a Morgan Rielly point shot off the right hand the shift before he scored late in last night's game at Washington. As it turns out, that goal was scored with a broken finger.

Suffice it to say this is a HUGE blow to the Leafs. The 29 year old Tavares has three goals and seven points in eight games for the Leafs this season.

Meanwhile the team has had a hot and cold start to the season, going 4-3-1 through their first eight games.
