Taylor Hall claims the New Jersey Devils never made him an offer.

The New Jersey Devils pulled off the biggest trade of the 2019 - 2020 National Hockey League regular season when they dealt star forward Taylor Hall to the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for a pretty big package that included a 2020 conditional first-round draft pick, a conditional 2021 third-rounder, along with 3 prospects, forwards Nate Schnarr, and Nick Merkley as well as defenseman Kevin Bahl. It was a huge deal and one that presumably came off the heels of Hall turning down any type of long term extension that the Devils had presented him with, but as it turns out that was not the case. 

In a recent media availability Hall was asked about what went on behind the scenes during his time as a member of the New Jersey Devils and to the surprise of many Hall revealed that he had never received an offer of any kind from the Devils. One would have expected New Jersey Devils general manager Ray Shero to at least attempt an offer, but it sounds like the Devils were well aware of the fact that any such offer would likely have been declined. 

"Yeah there wasn't any offers, it never got to that point," admitted Hall as per TSN. "I think Ray is a patient guy and he wanted to see how the year went and I was in the boat. Ray and I have a great relationship and I think him and my agent get along very well as well, I think we both wanted to see how the year went and they knew that what I wanted to do this year was to play in the playoffs, to have a chance to go as deep as I could. It seemed like that might not be possible in New Jersey so we started talking about options and I think he got a couple of good offers and he sat me out and I was on my way."

Hall will no doubt earn a huge raise on his next contract and both the combination of how much money they would have to invest in him, as well as the fact that Hall made it clear he wants to play for a winning team, may have played a pivotal role in Shero's decision to not so much as bother with a contract offer.
