Not what the Devils want to hear.

The New Jersey Devils will need to turn their fortunes around rather rapidly or they could risk losing their star player.

Reports surfaced towards the end of the 2018 - 2019 National Hockey League regular season that Dvuls' star forward Taylor Hall had no intention of re-signing an extension with his current team. These of course are only rumors as Hall himself has never acknowledge them publicly, but you could certainly see why the former Hart Memorial Trophy winner would not want to remain with the Devils. The Devils had a pitiful campaign last season, one that saw Hall himself sidelined for a good part of it due to a significant injury, and as a result Hall was once again denied a chance at playoff success.

After suffering in Edmonton during his time with the Oilers and now in New Jersey with the Devils you could easily see why Hall would want to move to a team with a better chance at having postseason success. On Monday the talented winger confirmed as much when he made it clear that he intends to play on a winning team sooner rather than later.

“You want to play on the best team possible, and I’ve played nine seasons in the NHL and only won one playoff game,” Hall said as per the Associated Press. “You want to be on a team that’s not only a playoff contender but a Stanley Cup contender every year because I only have so many more years left in this league and so many more chances to win a Stanley Cup. It hasn’t even come close yet. I kind of want to make up for lost time, but at the same time want to be smart with everything that’s going on.”

That certainly does not sound to me like a player that wants to remain on the team that finished 3rd from the bottom in the NHL last season, and with Hall and unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2019 - 2020 NHL season that could mean bad news for the Devils. The Devils of course are very aware of this and the big offseason moves they made are no doubt a result of their desire to become more competitive and secure a player like Hall on their roster for the foreseeable future.

Whether or not it will prove to be enough remains to be seen.
