The New Jersey Devils will have the No. 1 pick at this year’s NHL draft as the team ended up being the winner of the draft lottery on Tuesday night.

The Colorado Avalanche had the best odds of landing the first pick at 18.5 per cent, but they drew the No. 4 selection.

The Devils get the chance to pick first overall for the second time in two years and it seems like they had a good feeling about it. This is what they posted on Twitter hours prior to the draft lottery:

The Devils have a “lucky charm” of sorts in Taylor Hall, who decided to add “NHL lottery ball specialist” to his hockey resume.

As it turns out, Hall is truly a legend at this lottery game. Since 2010 after the Oilers selected Hall first overall, the team he's been on at the date of the draft picked with the following selections:

2010 - 1st - EDM- Taylor Hall

2011 - 1st - EDM - Ryan Nugent-Hopkins

2012 - 1st - EDM - Nail Yakupov

2013 - 7th - EDM - Darnell Nurse

2014 - 3rd - EDM - Leon Draisaitl

2015 - 1st - EDM - Connor McDavid

2016 - 4th - EDM - Jesse Puljujarvi

2017 - 1st - NJ - Nico Hischier

2018- 17th - NJ - Ty Smith

2019 - 1st - NJ - Jack Hughes?

Impressive.

When the lottery was over, projected first overall pick Jack Hughes was asked about the Devils and had this to say about Hall:

"I skate with Taylor Hall in the summers and he's a really good guy to me and he's really nice. I'd be really honoured and happy to play for the Devils one day. That'd be a great spot."

"They talk about Gretzky’s 92 goals or Sittler’s 10 pts in one game as records that may never be broken. But winning 5 draft lotteries in your first 9 years in the league? In 2 different draft lottery eras, no less. That is a record that will stand forever."

It seems like fans will be able to call him a prophet as well.  Some NHL fans are quite upset that the Devils will once again get their hands on a first overall pick, however, Hall is quite exciting about the future in New Jersey.
