Things are getting real messy in New Jersey and it is starting to get awkward between the Devils, their fanbase and star player Taylor Hall.

Earlier this week, the top forward made headlines when he criticized the fanbase in New Jersey after a 7-6 overtime loss at the hands of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Hall couldn’t believe all the boos he was hearing on the ice, despite the fact that he and his teammates still managed to answer back to last year’s President winners.

“We’re 1 for 3 on the power play and getting booed,” he said. “It’s a tied game and we are getting booed. That’s a tough environment to play in, especially when you are home. I know when we are playing somewhere and their fans start booing it’s a fun environment for the away team to play in. I understand the fans’ frustration. After the game if they are booing us losing that’s fine.”

On Friday night, as the Devils battled the Philadelphia Flyers at home, Hall gave his team a 3-2 lead while scoring after being checked from behind, but he made things worse by taunting his own fans.

That’s right, Hall asked for applause, putting his hands to his ear to see if the fans would boo him now.

Awkward…

And unfortunately for Hall and the Devils, they ended losing 4-3 in a shootout in which the star forward did not manage to score.

Karma?
