Hockey Canada officials have reached out to the Russian Hockey Federation as they hope to organize an exhibition game prior the 2018 Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, according to TSN who published a news coming from a Russian media outlet.

NHL players will not be taking part in upcoming Olympic Winter Games, a first since 1994. Therefore, Team Canada might see this occasion as one where it could have a look at a roster without NHLers.

Know that AHL players with a two-way contract will not be allowed to take part in the event, which forces Team Canada to select players from the AHL, KHL and other European leagues as well.

As for Team Russia, considered the favourite to win the gold medal, they will be able to count on some serious firepower as Ilya Kovalchuk and other great KHL players will be on its roster.

The Olympic tournament is scheduled to take place from Feb. 9-25, 2018.
