The announcement Tuesday evening that Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin had been knocked out of the tournament came as a big shock to most, primarily because Team Canada did such a good job of keeping a lid on the story.

However with the cat out of the bag, Team Canada general manager Doug Armstrong was willing to share some more details on the injury that will force Seguin to abandon his spot at the World Cup of Hockey.

"He tried to battle through it for a couple days but in fairness to himself and the Dallas Stars, he just wasn’t responding quick enough for this tournament," Armstrong said this morning on Sportsnet's 590 The Fan.

Armstrong stated that the injury was to Seguin's ankle, and that it had occurred during the first period of Team Canada's first exhibition game against Team USA. The silver lining here for Dallas Stars' fans is the fact that Armstrong also stated he doesn't expect this injury to sideline Seguin for very long.

Team Canada acted quickly naming Buffalo Sabres forward Ryan O'Reilly as Seguin's replacement. Wile O'Reilly is a very talented player, when it comes to filling the gap left by the departure of someone the level of Tyler Seguin, there isn't likely to be any truly suitable replacement.
