Team Canada’s Max Comtois makes surprising comments when accepting captaincy

No matter which country you cheer for in international hockey, there’s no denying the fact that being captain of Team Canada is one of the most prestigious positions in the sport. That’s why Team Canada’s captain for the 2019 World Junior Championships, Max Comtois, comments regarding his captaincy are so puzzling.

Comtois was named captain yesterday, just a day before Canada opens up its tournament against Denmark and the Anaheim Ducks draft pick admitted that he couldn’t remember the last time he was a captain.

Comtois is the only returning player from last year’s gold medal winning Canada squad, so it’s only natural that head coach Tim Hunter pegged him as his team’s captain for 2019. Still… here’s hoping the kid embraces the role from the beginning and can lead his team to a strong showing in Vancouver and Victoria.
