Team confirms veteran's career is over due to injuries.

Some pretty crappy news to report today as one National Hockey League veteran's career has been cut short prematurely.

According to a report from the Associated Press the Florida Panthers have confirmed that the career of veteran defenseman Willie Mitchell is over. Mitchell suffered yet another devastating concussion that cost him half of the season, and there were serious concerns about his long term health, especially if he were to ever suffer another head injury, as a result the 15 year NHL veteran is hanging up his skates.

Mitchell played in over 900 games in the NHL, making his first appearance as a member of the New Jersey Devils, and would go on to play as a member of the Minnesota Wild, Dallas Stars, Vancouver Canucks, Los Angeles Kings and finally the Florida Panthers.

While it's a sad day there's no doubt that this is the right decision from Mitchell, even the most die hard of Panthers' fans would be hard pressed to argue he should come back and put his quality of life on the line. We wish Willie nothing but the best in his future endeavors.
