Team has 'serious interest' in two rival assets.

The Chicago Blackhawks are determined to repeat as Stanley Cup champions, and they may look to a longtime rival to get the pieces they need for a long playoff run.

According to TSN's Farhan Lalji, the Blackhawks have 'serious interest' in Vancouver Canucks' defenseman Dan Hamhuis and forward Radim Vrbata.

Hamhuis, 33, is a pending unrestricted free agent with a cap hit of $4.5 million. He also carries a full no-trade clause, and it is unclear whether he would be willing to waive the clause. He has totaled 5 points in 35 games this season.

Vrbata, 34, is also a pending UFA carrying a hit of $5 million dollars. He has totaled 12 goals and 12 assists in 57 games with the Canucks this season.

TSN's Bob McKenzie reported last week the Blackhawks were "very aggressively" looking to acquire a top-line winger. According to General Fanager, Chicago is expected to have around $4.75 million in cap space as of the trade deadline day on Feb. 29.

A trade between the two clubs could be mutually beneficial, and possibly put the Blackhawks in a position to attempt a cup repeat.
