Johnny Gaudreau is seeking $8 million a year to re-sign with the Calgary Flames, according to The Score.
The 23-year-old has surely inspired himself of the contract given to his teammate Sean Monahan during the offseason, which saw the latter earn $6.375 million AAV. Evidently, coming off of an entry-level deal and being the Flames’ highest-scorer over the past two seasons (as well as tying for fifth overall in the NHL) means Gaudreau’s camp is expecting a huge pay raise.
Reportedly, management is not interested in giving him more than team captain Mark Giordano is earning ($6.75 million AAV) but is fully aware of his importance to the team. While both parties are not speaking during the World Cup of Hockey, it’s expected that a deal will get done after.
