The Athletic forced to make cuts, NHL insiders lose jobs

The National Hockey League might be getting set up to resume play and get the 24-team playoff tournament underway, but it looks like some great insiders won’t get to cover it.

On Friday, rumours started to spread that The Athletic was forced to make cuts, when moments later, Columbus Blue Jackets insider Tom Reed thanked his colleagues on Twitter, announcing he was not longer working for the Athletic.

Joe Yerdon, the insider for the Buffalo Sabres, was also part of the cuts.

I’m one of the unfortunate many to say this, but today was my final day with @TheAthleticBUF.

The fantastic insider of the Florida Panthers, Geroge Richards is also now without a job..

In total, it is reported that 46 people lost their jobs today at The Athletic. Here are some more insiders that were let go:

It remains to be seen if other insiders will get the boot. It must have been a hard time for insiders, reporters and writers during the NHL shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic and we were hoping that no one would lose their job.
