The best backup goalie in the NHL right now on the trade market?

This is no secret; several NHL teams are looking for help in between the pipes this season. It all started with the Vegas Golden Knights losing all goalies to injuries, and now the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers have lost their starters, and the Pittsburgh Penguins realized they needed better support there...

The market is scarce when we talk about quality backup goalies, but one team might have the perfect trade candidate. The San Jose Sharks have been looking to add some scoring depth, whilst having the cap space to do it, and could use backup netminder Aaron Dell as a trade chip.

According to Kevin Kurz of the Athletic, who notes that Dell is "arguably the best backup goalie in the league right now" in his mailbag, the Sharks could consider moving the 28-year-old who will never take over for Martin Jones as starter in San Jose.

"Could Dell be a No. 1 somewhere else? Maybe. We touched on this in the last mailbag, but my opinion is that Dell is one of the Sharks’ few tradable assets that they might be willing to part with if they eventually look to upgrade their scoring."

In 11 games with the Sharks this season, Dell has posted a 1.72 goal-against average and a .939 save percentage.

However, Kurz does not rule out the possibility that the Sharks might want to give Dell for themselves and re-sign him this summer as the backup for a couple more years with a nice raise from his current $625,000 salary.

But what if a team in need makes them an offer they can't refuse?
