The best Halloween costumes of the year from NHL players.... so far.

It's time for Halloween in the NHL.

Halloween is one of my favorites times of the year. Trick or treating and collecting candy is great, sure, but the real fun in my opinion comes as adults when we all get to enjoy the ridiculousness that is the costumes we have chosen for that particular year. Every single year I am amazed, surprised, and sometimes even a little horrified at the genuins creativity some people show when it comes to their brilliant costumes and this year will be no exception I'm sure.

Although Halloween is not quite upon us just yet the fact of the matter is that plenty of Halloween parties have already taken place and in fact a few teams in the National Hockey League have already hosted their annual parties as well. That means that we have already had the chance to spot some pretty darn spectacular Halloween costumes from some of our favorite NHL players and as is always the case they have not disappointed with some of the truly outrageous outfits that they have brought to the table this year.

Now it's still too early to judge who will end up having the best Halloween costume of the year, as I already stated we haven't even officially reached Halloween yet, but here is a look at some of the best costumes we have seen thus far. At least the ones that we are able to show you that is.

Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid and his significant other had a rather unique take on Halloween this year, going with what can only be described as a very Christmas-themed Halloween costume. I suppose you could try to suggest that McDavid is the Grinch that stole Halloween, but given the outfit worn by his partner it seems fair to suggest that they very much had Christmas in mind.

That certainly falls into the fun category of Halloween costumes, but this next one is definitely much more horrifying than anything else. This is Detroit Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader dressed as Pennywise the clown. You may not think it's very scary but the face that little baby is making in the picture perfectly conveys how I feel about the whole situation.

Some NHL players are going as a tandem this year and that is the case for 3 members of the Montreal Canadiens. The Habs hosted their annual Halloween party recently and we have it on good authority that under the masks are Cale Fleury, Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Nick Suzuki. The costumes are inspired by the "Casa de Papel" television series. It's a Spanish series that translates to "Money Heist" and these 3 certainly fit the part.

I have saved what is in my opinion the best for last. It may not be scary and it may not be particularly unique, but I would be lying if I said I did not immediately burst out laughing when I saw this one. Here is Samuel Girard of the Colorado Avalanche dressed up as none other than legendary Queen frontman Freddie Mercury. He pulls off the look rather perfectly and the fact that he is seated at a piano is just the cherry on top.
