The Bruins have officially been eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs

The Big Bad Bruins are done.

The Tampa Bay Lightning eliminated the Boston Bruins in double overtime tonight in Game 5 of the team’s second round Stanley Cup Playoff series.

Victor Hedman played hero for the Lightning, ending the Bruins’ season with a dagger of a shot.

Check it out:

As for the Bruins, their offseason begins this evening and it’s an offseason of uncertainty for this proud franchise. What happens to pending free agent Torey Krug? Will star goalie Tuukka Rask return in 2020-21? These are HUGE question marks facing this veteran team.

The Bruins are by no means yesterday’s news, but there’s no denying the fact that they’re a veteran team and they’re not exactly on the upswing. Captain Zdeno Chara is the oldest player in the NHL and core members of the team like Rask, Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand and David Krejci are all well into their 30s. Sure, David Pastrnak is just 23 years old and stud defenseman Charlie McAvoy is just 21 years old but the fact of the matter is that most of the Bruins’ core is on the Back 9 of their careers at this point.

GM Don Sweeney will have all eyes on him this offseason and if he makes some shrewd moves he could have this team back in contention next season.
