The Bruins have placed their infamous tough guy on waivers.

One of the NHL's most despised players has just been made available for any team with the gall to pick him up.

TSN's Bob McKenzie is reporting that the Boston Bruins placed forward Zac Rinaldo on waivers on Sunday.

For Rinaldo it marks the end of a unceremonious tenure with the Bruins only 8 months after the team traded a 3rd round pick to acquire him. The 25-year old struggled to make a difference on the score sheet while with Boston, managing only one goal and 5 assists along with 102 penalty minutes in 58 games with the Bruins.

Bruins' forward Max Talbot cleared waivers today, and the same should be expected of Rinaldo. This will open up two roster spots for the Bruins, who will likely try and utilize their young talent the rest of the way.

Rinaldo is an infamous player in the NHL due to his physical, but reckless style of play. He has been disciplined on multiple occasions by the Department of Player Safety for questionable and dangerous hits.

While Rinaldo clearly isn't going to score much, some still believe his penchant for laying big hits could be a "game changing" asset for teams in need of a physical presence.

While unlikely, there still may be a few teams interested in picking him up. This move may also be a precursor to a bigger transaction that the Bruins are trying to pull off before the trade deadline.

There is definitely going to be action involving Rinaldo at some point before the Feb.29 trade deadline.
