Well this is certainly getting interesting.

According to an official announcement from the Montreal Canadiens organization, the team has just traded veteran left winger Nicolas Deslauriers to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for a 4th round draft selection at the 2020 National Hockey League Entry Draft. This is an interesting move from Habs general manager Marc Bergevin as moving Deslauriers' contract off the books shaves less than $1 million off of the Habs salary cap for the 2019 - 2020 NHL regular season.

This now marks the second time today that Bergevin has traded away one of his players for draft picks, although admittedly the trade that took place earlier today involving veteran forward Andrew Shaw was much more of a salary dump than anything else, at least that us how it appeared to us. It also has to be noted that general manager Marc Bergevin now finds himself in control of a wealth of draft picks in the 2020 NHL draft and given that the event is set to be held in Montreal, it seems likely that the two are very much connected.

In Deslauries the Ducks will be getting a journeyman player who appeared in just 48 games with the Canadiens last season, recording 3 goals and 3 assists for a total of 5 points on the season.
