The Las Vegas Golden Knights made their first official player transaction on Monday and it was as clear a message as general manager George McPhee could send to show he wasn't going to wait for the season to end to start building his roster.

While there aren't many who expect that the Golden Knights will be a genuine contender right out of the gate, McPhee appears to have the intention of doing just that and may even have his eyes on a former Stanley Cup Champion as the center piece of his new roster.

Over the week-end Sportsnet insider Nick Kypreos reported that there are rumors McPhee is looking at Marc-Andre Fleury of the Pittsburgh Penguins as his main target, and with the ability to take on salary as well as some additional draft picks at his disposal, it's not outside the realm of possibility.

"He certainly might be the guy that ends up being the face of that franchise in the near future," said Kypreos.

Needless to say this would be a blockbuster move right out of the gate for such a new franchise, and with the rumors surrounding Fleury before the deadline, it may be one that quickly becomes a reality.
