There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the Carolina Hurricanes and how players, fans and pundits feel their Storm Surge postgame celebration.

After a win at home, we often see players raising their sticks in the air to salute the crowd. The Hurricanes took it a step further this season when they decided to perform pre-planned, intricate celebrations after each home win. This eventually led Don Cherry to declare the Hurricanes to be a “bunch of jerks.”

It didn't stop the Canes from having fun and keeping up with the Storm Surge.

However, now, it is over.

Captain Justin Williams took to Twitter on Thursday, ahead of tonight's game against his former team the Washington Capitals to announce that it would be the last Storm Surge on the season, regardless of the outcome.

"Regardless of the outcome tonight, this will be our last storm surge of the season. It has been an absolute treat celebrating victories with our fans and muddying up the waters a little bit. We’ve created a buzz again in Carolina but we know ultimately we’ve done that by winning games and playing for eachother. Huge games are coming up for us. See you out there."

The Hurricanes are focused on making the postseason as the battle has intensified in the Eastern Conference. Before Thursday night's action, Carolina sits in the first Wild Card spot with 91 points. The Montreal Canadiens are in the last spot with 90 points, but are facing the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight in a pivotal game. The Jackets currently have 88 points.

So if you love or hate the Hurricanes’ postgame shenanigans, it will be the last time you see them tonight. The captain has spoken and the team wants to focus on the playoff run.

Or they've simply run out of ideas...
