If all it took was a coaching change to get the New York Islanders season back on track, they might have done it much earlier in the season.

The Islanders are now 5-0-1 since Doug Weight took over as head coach after beating the Washington Capitals tonight. The Capitals currently sit atop of the Metropolitan division and were no small task for the Isles. The Islanders have beaten 3 of the top teams in the East during their last 3 wins, showing that this streak isn't a fluke either. The Islanders are playing some great hockey.

They are back to playing their quick intense pace and they are also getting some help from some players who have needed to turn things around. Andrew Ladd who just signed the monster deal with the team has found his scoring touch and most of the wins have been full team efforts.

They currently sit 3 points back of the Philadelphia Flyers who hold the final wild card spot. However, the Islanders have 3 games in hand. It has definitely been the right time for them to wake up and start turning their season around. There is still a lot of hockey left and the Isles will have lots of work left to do, but they are making a push at the right time.
