The New York Rangers have made their first pick of the first round.
The Rangers acquired the number 7 overall pick from the Arizona Coyotes in a trade earlier today, and they used it to make a surprise pick drafting 18-year-old center Lias Andersson.
Andersson was on most mock drafts placed at around the 15 to 25 ranking, so this is a big jump up for him in the draft, but it's clear the Rangers believe he can develop into a force up the middle for them.

He is coming off a 42 games season with HV71 Jonkoping of the Swedish hockey league, one that saw him record 9 goals and 10 assists for 19 points on the season.
