There is no right or wrong way to negotiate player contracts, as long as the proceedings are done in good faith. Sometimes, a little enticement comes into play.

In the case of the New York Islanders, management felt that it was important to have John Tavares present during the discussions with Jimmy Vesey’s camp, according to the Globe and Mail.

This would not be the first time that teams resort to these types of tactics- the Toronto Maple Leafs reportedly invited their 2016 first overall NHL Entry Draft pick Auston Matthews to a similar meeting, although there’s no word yet on just how effective that has been.

The news regarding Tavares comes shortly after he claimed that there’s no reason for him to leave the Isles after his contract expires.
