Was the Cup carrier partying too much?!
The Avalanche were crowned Stanley Cup champions or the first time in 21 years on Sunday following a 2-1 victory over the Lightning in Tampa. The Cup traveled back to Colorado on Monday and was passed around as the team got off the plane. But then, it sorta got lost. The trophy made an unscheduled stop Monday night when it was brought to Dmitri Rudenko and his husband Kit Karbler’s house in Denver. The delivery was intended for their neighbor, Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog, who lives in the same neighborhood, and his address is very similar to Rudenko and Karbler’s.
When Hockey Hall of Fame’s Keeper of the Cup Philip Pritchard opened the car’s trunk after realizing he made the mistake, Rudenko and Karbler got to spend a special moment with the trophy.
“I couldn’t believe it! All my thoughts were wide open because how could that be? Because I knew that we had Avalanche players that lived in the neighborhood but I didn’t know how close and specific and to get the wrong address would be easy for them,” Karbler said to FOX 31.
“He opened it up all the way, said go ahead. I lifted it up. I couldn’t believe how heavy it was. I ran my fingers over the engraving,” Karbler added.
The couple snapped a quick photo of the trophy in its case before it got on its way to the captain’s house.
“We made sure it arrived safe,” Rudenko laughed.

After a quick detour at Rudenko and Karbler’s house, the Stanley Cup got back on track and made it to the house of captain Gabriel Landeskog in time for the championship parade, which will march through the streets of Denver on Thursday.
