The story of how Jarkko Ruutu catfished and sexted rookie teammate Ryan Whitney

Throughout his 11 year NHL career super pest Jarkko Ruutu made a name for himself not by scoring highlight reel goals or putting up big offensive numbers, but by getting under the skin of his opposition. The veteran of 652 games with the Vancouver Canucks, Pittsburgh Penguins, Ottawa Senators and Anaheim Ducks was one of the most hated players of his generation, but was universally loved by all of his teammates. Except Penguins teammate Ryan Whitney, that is.

On the latest episode of Whitney’s Spittin’ Chiclets podcast which he co-hosts with former NHL enforcer Paul Bisonette, Whitney shared a story of how Ruutu absolutely EMBARASSED the Whit Dawg during his rookie dinner with the Penguins back in 2006.

“I got like a phone call and some girl was on the other end, but then like she hung up and was texting me like, ‘Yeah, we met at so and so in such and such time.’ And then she starts talking like dirty and dirty and dirty and over time I’m like ‘Who is this girl!?’ And I was like writin’ stuff back, you know what I mean?”

“All of a sudden at rookie party Ruutu is like, ‘I gotta read something,’ and starts reading read a convo and I’m like… ‘Dude… this sounds really, REALLY familiar.’ He was doin’ it the entire time! It was this sicko Jarkko Ruuto for like two months he was like cat fishing me and he was saying DIRTY things!”
