He's a ghost and upper management might run out of patience.

Roll call: Spooner? Ryan Spooner? Anyone know where Ryan Spooner has been the past four games? The Boston Bruins 25 year-old center has been invisible in his team’s first round playoff series against the Ottawa Senators and, as a result, the B’s find themselves down 3-1 with their backs up against a wall.

There’s no doubt that Spooner’s production has regressed this season when compared to last. Last season he managed nearly 50 points, this season he hasn’t even hit 40 and he’s been irrelevant for long stretches. For Spooner, his decline in play couldn’t come at a worse time given that he’ll be a restricted free agent this offseason with very little leverage. His two-year contract signed in 2015 expires this summer and while he may end up earning a raise on his $950,000 salary, it won’t be as hefty as he’d hoped.

That’s assuming the Bruins are even interested in brining back Spooner at all. Given his lack of production this season and his disappearing act in the playoffs, the B’s may just decide to move on from the once promising player and put their resources elsewhere. Whatever the future holds for Spooner, the best thing he can do in the moment is play well and be a difference maker. If he’s not able to do that, his season and his career in Boston may be over before too long.
