Last summer are agency wasn't interesting, not at all. The Summer of 2015 will always be remembered as the Summer of pro-tryout contracts.

The 2016 Summer could very well the exact opposite. With a class of talented and proven UFAs it should make to be a nice 1st of July.

Here some of the available players who aren't playing the best hockey and could be signed for less than their real value:

JIRI HUDLER:

Unfortunately for the man without shoes, Hudler's career season was last year. This season, injuries have set him back and completely shrieked his value. after being the perfect compliment to Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau, Hudler is currently skating on the Flames' third line and is on pace to score 20 goals less than last year, where he scored 30 for the first time in his career.

ANDREW LADD:

The Winnipeg Jets' captain's offseason surgery still affects him it seems. Ladd had the opportunity to sign a contract extension last season, but decided to wait another year. What was he thinking? A sports hernia surgery takes time to recover from, he and his representatives should've known better and sign that extension when it was on the table. Although is play hasn't been up to his standards, Ladd's leadership has never been questioned.

ERIC STAAL:

Staal hasn't signed a contract extension with the Carolina Hurricanes probably because he doesn't want to. Unfortunately for him, Carolina is the organization that would be willing to pay him the most. Staal would like to sign with a cup contender, but can't be a number 1 centre anymore. His stats are showing a dangerous trend downwards since the 2011 season.

DAVID BACKES:

The big centerman is feeling the effects of his style of play. After a decade of "in your face" type of hockey, Backes has slowed down drastically in the past 2 seasons. His points total is very low, at 28 and young players are pushing hard to take his place in the Blues' lineup. With some value left on the market, Backes might get traded during the summer. After all, if the Blues want to contend for the Cup, they can't possibly do it without their captain, or can they?

STEVEN STAMKOS:

The only thing that can be said about Steven Stamkos is that he will get paid big bucks over the summer, but his stats this season aren't close to what it should be. Will he a Kopitar,Kane and Toews type of contract, or will he have a little less? After all, Stamkos doesn't have a cup ring yet.
