Three same players on one line?

The Bruins have, during practice, employed a line of only centers. Considering that there are still three games in the preseason, and that this is the second time in practice they’ve used that line, it suggests that they are taking it seriously and will test it out against the Habs tonight.

This line consists of Ryan Spooner, David Backes, and David Krejci. The idea is that both Spooner and Backes will be wingers for Krejci. “We have three centermen. If I’m having a tough time on the draw, those two other guys can step in,” said Krejci, when asked about his new linemates.

Although it was never admitted, Claude Julien must’ve taken that idea from his tenure with Team Canada, where the only actual wingers on that roster were both Brad Marchand and Corey Perry. “That doesn’t mean it’s going to be set in stone, but at least we’ll have some options,” said Julien.

And having options in hockey is always a good way to go.
