Three sources claim three teams in the mix for the same player.

While there may still be as many as eight teams competting for the services of defenseman Kris Russell that picture may be narrowing down and it sounds like Canadian team's in the Western Conference are the front runners.

First Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal believes the team with the most need is the Vancouver Canucks who have yet to fill the gap left by the departed Dan Hamhuis, Matheson believes the team is sorely in need of a top 4 defenseman, and Russell could fill that gap.

TSN's Dustin Nielson however reported that the Edmonton Oilers were not only interested, but may in fact have already started discussing money and term with Russell or his representatives. as early as Tuesday.

TSN's Bob McKenzie touched on the fact that he believes Russell's former team the Calgary Flames may very well still be interested in bringing him back citing a lack of depth on the Calgary blue line for their interest in a player they dealt away previously.

"The Calgary Flames are still interested in having him back because they’ve got the same problem on their blueline, said McKenzie as per Nichols on Hockey. "They have a hole in their Top 4. So whether they play Giordano with Brodie, or whether they play Giordano with Hamilton – those are their top three, and then there’s a big drop-off to Jokipakka-Wideman on their third pair. So Calgary has also got the same problem on the blueline and they’re talking to Russell too, I would imagine.”
