Talks are heating up already…

The New Jersey Devils might have had all of the best intentions to acquire and sign players to build a contender for the Stanley Cup, so far it has yet convinced star forward Taylor Hall that they could go all the way.

This of course means Devils general manager Ray Shero will have to consider moving Hall this season in a blockbuster trade and already talks have heated up.

The speculation has also prompted Luke Fox of Sportsnet to propose the Colorado Avalanche, Montreal Canadiens, and Anaheim Ducks as possible trade destinations for Hall if the Devils move him ahead of the trade deadline.

The three teams have the salary-cap space to pick up Hall’s $6 million salary-cap hit and could make an appropriate pitch to the player to convince him they are on the rise. The Avalanche surprised many last season by making it to the second round series and the Canadiens are set on going all the way as star goalie Carey Price believes his time is now.

The three teams suggested by Fox not only have the cap space, but  also the depth in prospects and young players to entice the Devils to make a move.

Fox’s colleague Elliotte Friedman dared to suggest last week that the Edmonton Oilers would be a suitor as well for Hall. It remains to be seen if they could make it work within their financial puzzle.

It all depends if the Devils go ahead and move Hall and if he wants to re-sign with the team that acquires him…
