June 26th, 1999. It was a day that changed hockey history in Vancouver forever. In a flurry of transactions that saw then Vancouver Canucks general manager Brian Burke claim the 2nd and 3rd overall selections in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, the team was poised to select future superstars Daniel and Henrik Sedin. And that’s exactly what they did. In fact, Burke made both the 2nd and 3rd selection at the same time, fitting given that the pair would hardly be separated throughout their NHL careers.

For an interesting perspective on what exactly went down that day, check out this mini-documentary from Youtuber James Avila:

Awesome stuff here. Seeing the scouts speculate on who goes first and where the twins will end up is fascinating. Also, how young does Brian Burke look!?
