Tocchet chirps Kessel after being named All-Star Game coach

I would honestly pay to see Tocchet and Kessel mic’d up and going at each other.

In case you missed the news earlier today, the NHL announced that Arizona Coyotes head coach Rick Tocchet will be replacing the newly unemployed Gerard Gallant, formerly of the Vegas Golden Knights, in the 2020 NHL All Star Game.

Check it out:

Gallant, of course, was fired by the Golden Knights yesterday and replaced with former San Jose Sharks head coach Pete DeBoer. With Gallant without a job, the NHL had to act fast to fill the position behind the Pacific Division’s bench. Rumors are that it came down to Tocchet and Vancouver Canucks head coach Travis Green. But with the Canucks already sending three players to the game (Elias Pettersson, Quinn Hughes and Jacob Markstrom) and the Coyotes sending none, it makes sense to get some Coyotes representation behind the bench.

Interestingly enough Amanda Kessel, sister of Coyotes superstar Phil Kessel, will be taking in the events as well and participating in the Elite Women’s 3 on 3 challenge. Tocchet even joked that he’d like to coach the women’s game just so “a Kessel will actually listen to me.”

Check it out:

If that’s not a chirp at Phil the Thrill, I don’t know what is. Something tells me though that no one laughed harder at it than Phil himself though.

Tocchet and Kessel’s relationship is well documented. The pair are like two kindred spirits and likely trade barbs like this on a daily basis.
