Flashback to the first round series between the Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes and what’s your last memory? Brock McGinn’s double-overtime, Game 7 winner? Maybe. Ovechkin’s one-punch knockout of rookie Andrei Svechnikov? Definitely.

Remember this?

Ovi just DUMMIES the 19 year old rookie with a HUGE right hand!

Of course, Svechnikov and the Hurricanes would have the last laugh as they took the series in seven games later that week.

Now, months later Ovi’s teammate Tom Wilson is coming under some fire for comments he made about Svechnikov on a recent podcast. While making an appearance on the Cabbie Presents Podcast with TSN’s Cabbie Richards, Wilson had some choice words for Svechnikov.

Check it out:

“They were battling for a while before that, no one really realized,” Wilson, Ovechkin’s line-mate on the first line, said. “End of the regular season, they were really going at it and [the fight] was kind of the peak of the confrontation. And Ovi’s a lefty. He’ll tell him, that’s not even his dominant hand.”
“At first, I’m like, ‘Oh god, don’t get hurt, Ovi,’” Wilson said. “At first thought, it was ‘Why is Ovi fighting?’ Then it was, ‘Oh. Oh no.’ And then, it is what it is.”

It is what it is. Indeed.
