Tomas Kaberle takes a job as a delivery driver to help Toronto get through crisis

Incredible! Well done, Mr. Kaberle.

In the pantheon of legendary Toronto Maple Leafs players defenseman Tomas Kaberle doesn’t get near the credit he deserves. Kaberle put up seven 40+ point seasons during his 11 years with the team and even managed a remarkable 67 point campaign in 2005-06. The pairing of Kaberle and partner Bryan McCabe were a force to be reckoned with during Kaberle’s prime, but these days you’ll be hard pressed to find many #15 jerseys in the crowd at a Leafs game.

Well… that may be about to change and it has nothing to do with Kaberle’s on-ice achievements. The 42 year old Czech native who has made Toronto his permanent home is reportedly working as a delivery driver for his wife’s Italian restaurant to help residents get through the COVID-19 pandemic.

How cool is that!?

Any Torontonians out there feel like ordering in a pizza tonight?

In other Leafs news, captain John Tavares took to social media to share a message with Leafs Nation and, indeed, the entire hockey world: Stay home.

“Let’s all play inside and play for each other,” the letter reads. “With this challenge comes great opportunity to enjoy quality time with family and loved ones. Let’s take care of each other by washing our hands frequently and practicing social distancing.”

The Leafs’ captain went on to thank healthcare workers and others on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic, saying, “Thank you for your courage, determination and hard work to fight this crisis. We are extremely grateful.”

And to Leafs Nation:

“To Leafs nation, my teammates and I can’t wait until we get the opportunity again to put on our skates, and wear the Maple Leaf on our chest,” he wrote. “Until then, let’s do everything we can to help each other by staying safe and healthy!”
