Tonight's Starting Netminder

You'll be surprised at who gets the nod.

Despite losing three consecutive games, the Detroit Red Wings have nonetheless managed to steal a point from their matchup against the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday evening. While the team’s defense was questionable at best in allowing their opponents to take 40 shots on goal, Petr Mrazek did his absolute best to keep them in the game despite a .900 save percentage and four goals allowed.

Still, that was insufficient in convincing head coach Jeff Blashill that Jimmy Howard deserves a shot at minding the net tonight and has instead opted to give Mrazek the nod ahead of the team’s matchup against the visiting Winnipeg Jets.

The hopes are that the Czech goalie will get a little more help from his teammates, and the veteran presence of Niklas Kronwall, who is set to return to game action tonight after several months off, could provide a steadiness on the blue line.
