The Buffalo Sabres and general manager Tim Murray may have overestimated their ability to woo forward Jimmy Vesey, and as a result may have traded away an asset for nothing.

While Murray could afford to gamble one of his third round picks as a result of having three stocked up, it looks now like he may be coming off on the losing end of that gamble. According to a report from Kevin Paul Dupont he has been informed by Vesey that despite the trade he has no plans of foregoing his free agency.

‘’I’m still going to go to free agency and explore all my options.''

Vesey, who is coming off a Hobey Baker Award winning season will be a free agent in August, and is likely to have a great many suitors, including the Toronto Maple Leafs, who boast Vesey's father as a member of their organization.
