Some of the best undrafted players in all of hockey convened in Buffalo, New York this past weekend for the NHL’s annual Draft Combine. While top European skater Kaappo Kakko of Finland elected to skip the event, top North American skater Jack Hughes was in attendance are met with several teams during the weekend.

Interestingly enough, Hughes was asked a question about his childhood and who he looked up to as a young hockey player. His answer may surprise some hockey fans, but is sure to delight fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Check it out:

Unfortunately for the Leafs, a Hughes selection doesn’t seem to be in the cards. The team lacks a first round pick and Hughes is the consensus #1 pick. The New Jersey Devils possess the #1 pick and will likely spend the next two and a half weeks determining whether they’ll take Hughes or Kakko. The New York Rangers hold the #2 pick.

Hughes, of course, grew up around the Leafs organization as his father, Jim Hughes, was formerly the team's director of player development.
