Toronto and Ottawa swap players, pick

The Toronto Maple Leafs and provincial rivals the Ottawa Senators have announced a trade. Max Veronneau goes to the Leafs from the Senators in exchange for forward Aaron Luchuk and a conditional sixth round pick in 2021.

Veronneau, 24, has appeared in four games for the Senators this season, but was held pointless. He recorded two goals and two assists in 12 games with Ottawa in 2018-19. He has also skated in 33 games with the Belleville Senators in 2019-20, recording 10 points (five goals and five assists). He was never drafted, instead signing with Ottawa out of the U.S. College Hockey system. 

Luchuk, 22, has spent most of this season with the Newfoundland Growlers of the ECHL, notching 19 goals and 49 points in 44 games. He has also spent time with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL, playing three games but failing to hit the scoresheet. 

This isn't Toronto's only trade of the day. Earlier, they acquired forward Denis Malgin from the Florida Panthers in exchange for forward Mason Marchment. Malgin, 23, was drafted by the Panthers in the fourth round back in 2015 and has put up 60 points in 184 career games. Marchment is an undrafted 24-year-old who was signed by the Leafs as a free agent coming out of the OHL. He played four games with the Leafs this year managing one assist.
