Over the week end we reported on two moves made by the Toronto Maple Leafs, two moves that have yet to be officially acknowledged by the organization itself.

The first move was the reported signing of former Pittsburgh Penguins forward Garret Wilson. We actually initially reported on that move all the way back on Saturday, but up until now there had been no details from the Leafs regarding Wilson's signing and no details of any kind regarding the type of contract he may have received. Although Wilson is not a huge name in the National Hockey League he did captain the Penguins American Hockey League affiliate, also known as the Penguins, while also serving in a valuable depth role for the organization at the NHL level.

In the 2018 - 2019 campaign Wilson appeared in 50 games for the Penguins, recording 2 goals and 6 assists for a total of 8 points over that stretch. Wilson obviously saw limited time as a 4th liner but he was a positive player in spite of that finishing with a plus minus rating of +2 on the season. At the AHL level he excelled for the Penguins recording 8 goals and 10 assists for a total of 18 points in the 18 AHL games he appeared in.

Now however it sounds like this deal may have actually been wrapped up quite some time ago. According to a report from Toronto Maple Leafs beat reporter Teryr Koshan, he has now been able to confirm that Wilson has in fact signed on with the Maple Leafs and has received slightly more than the NHL minimum of $700,000 per season on his new deal as well. The most interesting detail from Koshan however is the revelation that this will be a one way deal for Wilson which means he will have to pass through waivers if the Leafs intend to use him on the Toronto Marlies roster in the American Hockey League.

According to a source that Koshan spoke to the deal has "been done for a while" which would lend credence to the theory that the Leafs are waiting to announce the signing of Mitch Marner before going public with some of their more minor moves this summer. We also reported this morning that the Maple Leafs had added veteran goaltender Michal Neuvirth via a professional tryout offer, but although Koshan acknowledged the report he did not provide any further confirmation regarding the addition of Neuvirth.
