The clock is ticking and it seems like it has no effect on young star players around the National Hockey League.

With less than a month to go before the first game of the 2019-20 season, many restricted free agents, notably Mitch Marner, Bayden Point, Patrik Laine, Kyle Connor all remained unsigned.

Columbus Blue Jackets head coach John Tortorella, who took a shot at former players Matt Duchene, Artemi Panarin and Sergei Bobrovsky today, wasn’t done speaking his mind.

One of his young players remains unsigned as defenseman Zach Werenski has yet to sign his name on the dotted line with the Blue Jackets,

Well, Tortorella made it perfectly clear that he expects the young blue liner to be at camp and almost seemed to send a message to all young RFAs at this time in the offseason, per The Athletic

”I’d be terribly disappointed. I’m not involved in the business part of it. But for a young man to miss one minute of camp - and I’ve said this with () - it disgusts me,” Tortorella said.

He had more to say about his young player:

“That guy there, Werenski, the way he has evolved here. He has shown so much determination, so much more confidence and attention to detail playing defence without it really affecting his offensive game. He has really grown as a player. I just don’t want him to miss a beat here. I won’t be disappointed, I’ll be disgusted.”

The Columbus Dispatch recently reported Werenski is hoping to get a three-year deal with an AAV above $5 million. Let’s see if the Jackets will be willing to spend their remaining cash - $15,765,918 - on Werenski, who is the only player on the roster left unsigned.

The 22-year-old blue liner posted 11 goals and 33 assists last season.
