The Detroit Red Wings will play four more preseason games to determine who sticks around and who doesn’t.

The caveat? They’ll have to play these last exhibition matches in a 5-night span, starting tonight at the United Center against the Chicago Blackhawks (8:30pm ET).

That means that head coach Jeff Blashill will have his hands full in trying to figure out his lineup in time for the start of the regular season schedule next Thursday, October 13th. As it stands, prospects such as Anthony Mantha and Andreas Athanasiou, as well as 25-year-old AHLer Mitch Callahan have caught management’s attention with strong preseason outings, further complicating things on the forward front.

Moreover, Martin Frk and Tyler Bertuzzi as well as Teemu Pulkkinen will render decisions even more difficult for the Red Wings’ brass, as the team is not short on forwards. The latter three have the opportunity to shine within the last four games.

Sounds like a lot of work in an exceptionally short amount of time.
