At the trade deadline on Monday, the Vegas Golden Knights acquired forward Mark Stone from the Ottawa Senators in a deal for defensive prospect Erik Brannstrom, forward Oscar Lindberg and Dallas’ second-rounder in 2020.

On top of that, Stone revealed that he and the Golden Knights had agreed to an eight-year extension. TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie reported that the deal is for $9.5 million per season, but the deal cannot be completed until Friday.

While it was expected that Stone would be on the move - after all, he had been sitting out of the team’s last three games to avoid injury as a trade was getting closer - it was still very hard for teammate Brady Tkachuk to accept the move.

The two players had grown close especially seeing that Tkachuk was rooming with Stone since the start of the season. When asked about the trade, the Sens rookie wanted to express how happy he was for his friend to get a new start in a contending city, however he choked back tears as he explained how much he would miss his dear friend…

Stone, who was drafted by the Senators in the sixth round (178th overall) of 2010 NHL Draft, has 123 goals and 311 points over the his seven-year career. Fans expected him to become the franchise’s new captain, to possibly lead them to a Stanley Cup, to be a Senator for life…  And it seemed to include Tkachuk…

Now, the kid will have to find somewhere else to stay...
