Times are tough for the Detroit Red Wings’ front office.

General manager Ken Holland has been feeling the pressure lately, and this offseason’s bad news regarding the loss of Pavel Datsyuk to the KHL was a blow to a team that was already on the decline. Replacing him with Frans Nielsen, as good a two-way player as he is, might not prove to be the solution.

Moreover, their $9.2 million goaltending situation is shaky at best, and yesterday Niklas Kronwall’s injury took a turn for the worst as it was announced that he will not only miss training camp and the World Cup of Hockey, but also the start of the regular season.

Holland will have to pull out all the stops to make his team competitive once again.
