Trade Alert: Blackhawks and Red Wings hook up on a deal

In case you missed it earlier today, the Chicago Blackhawks traded forward Brendan Perlini to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for junior defenseman Alec Regula.

Check it out:

The 23 year old Perlini has played just one game this season and reportedly asked for a trade from Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman if he wasn't going to get an increase in playing time.

Perlini was acquired by the Blackhawks along with forward Dylan Strome from the Arizona Coyotes last season, but struggled to find consistency with the Blackhawks since arriving. He put up a respectable 12 goals in 46 games last season, but obviously didn't do enough to convince head coach Jeremy Colliton that he's deserving of more ice time. In 200 career NHL games played, Perlini has 45 goals and 72 points.

The former 12th overall pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft has done little to prove that he can be a consistent NHL player, but he'll be given a fresh chance with the offensively-starved Red Wings. It's not exactly a secret that the Wings have had a difficult time finding the scoresheet this season and Perlini could potentially give them an additional top-six option.

As for Regula, the Blackhawks have already stated that he'll remain with the OHL's London Knights for the remainder of this season, where he already has an impressive four goals and 11 points in 10 games. The 19 year old defenseman was chosen by the Red Wings in the third round (67th overall) of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.
