It has been a tough start to the 2019-20 season for the New Jersey Devils and it seems like general manager Ray Shero has managed to get some depth in one area of the game.

On Friday, the Devils acquired netminder Louis Domingue from the Tampa Bay Lightning in return for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.

The Devils are currently playing against the Flyers in Jersey. The Bolts are also in action tonight as they are playing against the Islanders in New York.

Domingue had been playing with Tampa Bay’s AHL team in Syracuse and is expected to report to the Devils’ AHL affiliate in Binghamton.

It was almost written in the skies that Domingue would be on his way out with Tampa Bay once the club signed Curtis McElhinney to serve as the official backup behind star goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy.

Of course, the Quebec native would love to get a chance to be the starter somewhere else in the league, but went unclaimed when placed on waivers in September. A change of scenery is likely to be  beneficial for him.

Last season, Domingue went 21-5-0 with a 2.88 GAA and .908 save percentage.
